She began her career with the NHS and Social Services in Warwickshire, working in a variety of settings, before returning to Scotland. For 35 years, she worked in Children’s Services, primarily supporting young people with complex needs from birth through to school leaving.
After retiring from the NHS in 2023, Fiona realised she wasn’t quite ready to stop working. She became aware of DriveAbility and the Aberdeen Outreach service and has really enjoyed working with the team, even though it was a steep learning curve. She quickly found that many of her skills were transferable and values the opportunity to support people in continuing to drive safely or returning to driving after illness or disability. Fiona also enjoys problem solving with clients to explore different ways to access vehicles and stow equipment, enabling them to stay independent and active. Her work highlights the diversity and adaptability of a career in Occupational Therapy.
Outside of work, Fiona can often be found in her garden, travelling in a motorhome, walking her Boxer dog, or volunteering with a local community transport group.
