Max’s Success Story: Turning Challenges into Driving Confidence

When Max first came to DriveAbility Scotland, he was determined to find a way to achieve greater independence. Living with right-sided hemiplegia, he knew that driving would open up opportunities to access his community on his own terms but he needed specialist support to explore the right adaptations.

When Max first came to DriveAbility Scotland, he was determined to find a way to achieve greater independence. Living with right-sided hemiplegia, he knew that driving would open up opportunities to access his community on his own terms but he needed specialist support to explore the right adaptations.

Referred to us by Motability, Max arrived with a clear goal: to discover how he could safely and confidently get behind the wheel. Our team worked with him to trial a range of driving adaptations tailored to his needs, including the Jeff Gosling twin-flip left-foot accelerator and the Lodgesons Lollipop 13-way function keypad.

At first, Max admitted to feeling a little nervous about trying something new. But once he began using the adaptations, his confidence grew rapidly. With each trial, he became more comfortable and was soon driving with genuine enjoyment, a huge milestone in his journey towards independence.

For Max, this assessment was more than just a practical exercise; it was proof that driving could become a reality. His positive experience marked the first step toward gaining his licence and, with it, the freedom and control that driving provides.

At DriveAbility Scotland, we’re proud to support clients like Max in overcoming mobility challenges. Every story like his demonstrates the life-changing impact of personalised assessments and vehicle adaptation trials. For Max, this is just the beginning of an exciting road ahead.
