Regaining Independence : Rebekka’s Road to Independence

When Rebekka came to DriveAbility Scotland, she was determined to overcome the challenges she faced with standard car controls. Reaching the foot pedals had become increasingly difficult, and she needed a solution that would allow her to drive safely, comfortably, and with confidence.

Rebekka in car

When Rebekka came to DriveAbility Scotland, she was determined to overcome the challenges she faced with standard car controls. Reaching the foot pedals had become increasingly difficult, and she needed a solution that would allow her to drive safely, comfortably, and with confidence.

Our specialist team carried out a full vehicle adaptation assessment, giving Rebekka the opportunity to explore a range of options tailored to her needs. She trialled both an over-ring accelerator and an under-ring accelerator, each paired with a push-away brake system. While she proved she could manage both, the under-ring accelerator gave her the best balance of comfort and control.

Following the assessment, Rebekka received a personalised recommendation designed to maximise her safety and ease behind the wheel. With this guidance, she is now preparing to apply for Motability grant funding to support 40 hours of specialist driving tuition.

This next step will bring Rebekka closer to her driving licence and with it, a new level of independence and freedom. Her journey is only just beginning, and we’re proud to have played a role in helping her take these first, crucial steps toward the open road.
