When Jennifer first received her adapted Motability vehicle with a left foot accelerator, she expected to feel ready to take on the open road. But in reality, things didn’t go as smoothly as she hoped. Steering felt difficult, long journeys were daunting, and her confidence behind the wheel began to fade.
Before finding us, Jennifer had been advised by a local dealership to use automatic settings for her secondary controls. What she didn’t realise was that she could have had a full adaptations assessment with Driveability Scotland through a Motability referral saving her time, stress, and uncertainty.
That’s when she turned to us.
During her visit, our expert team including an Occupational Therapist and Driving Advisor, worked closely with Jennifer to explore all the possibilities. Together, we discovered that she would benefit from a smart steering aid, giving her greater control and ease when driving. We also supported her in testing her right lower limb for driving, something she’d always been curious about, helping her fully understand her options.
The result? Jennifer left her assessment with clarity, a plan, and most importantly renewed confidence in her driving future.
She is now applying for a Motability grant to help fund her new smart steering ball and has arranged familiarisation lessons to ensure she feels completely comfortable with her adaptations.
Jennifer’s story is proof that with the right support and guidance, challenges on the road don’t have to hold you back. At Driveability Scotland, we’re proud to help drivers like Jennifer rediscover independence, safety, and freedom behind the wheel.
